Q. What is infrared thermography and how does it work?
Thermography is a type of infrared imaging. Infrared cameras detect radiation in the infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum and produce images of that radiation.
Q. Can thermal imaging cameras see through the walls?
No. It appears as though you are but what you are actually seeing is the temperature changes on the wall due to material or moisture directly on or behind the wall. And no, it can't see through clothing or windows.
Q. How does infrared thermography detect moisture?
As moisture evaporates, it creates a cooling effect similar to getting out of the shower and standing under a fan.
Q. Is infrared thermography safe?
Yes. It is not any different than using a traditional camera.
Q. Is infrared thermography destructive?
No. Infrared imaging cameras are not intrusive or destructive.
Q. Can I accompany the thermographer during the inspection?
Yes. We strongly recommend that you do. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. This will help you to get the most benefit from the inspection and gain the most understanding of the systems that make up your home, and how to maintain them.
Q. How long will it take?
An average home can be inspected in 2 hours or less with 1-2+ hours more to generate the report. These times may vary depending on the size, age and condition of the home.
Q. What is included in the report?
You will receive a comprehensive report with an inventory of all scanned images. It will provide in clear written detail all the thermal anomalies detected as well as recommendations for repair.
Q. Should new construction be inspected?
Absolutely! New homes do not guarantee perfection. Locate problems before your warranty expires and eliminate any problems not visible to the naked eye.
Q. Why should I have my home inspected?
You're home is most likely going to be the largest investment you make in your life. Protect yourself and your family by ensuring electrical integrity. Over 72% of electrical losses could have been avoided with predictive and proactive care.
Thermal deficiencies, when corrected, will more than likely pay for themselves within the first year of repair. So keep your home comfortable and safe while protecting your investment.
